September 23, 2001:

On Sunday, September 23, SCRET put a team of divers on the stern section of the Bunker Hill, a T-2 oil tanker which sank at the south end of Rosiaro Strait in 1964.

The stern section is lying upside down on the bottom (with the bottom of the hull pointing up towards the surface). We grappeled the wreck at the end where the break occurred. The ship appears to have come apart at a bulkhead, because, while we saw lots of jagged pieces of metal, we did not see large openings into the hull (which is what I expected). The massive propeller and rudder on the stern of the wreck are awesome sights. The hull is covered with an amazing amout of marine life.

The top of the wreck ranges from about 235 feet on the end where the break occurred to about 220 at the top of the rudder. The bottom is 280 all around the wreck. Our profile was about an average of 240 for 25.
